چکیده

Recurrent neural networks, and in particular long short-term memory networks (LSTMs), are a remarkably effective tool for sequence modeling that learn a dense black-box hidden representation of their sequential input. Researchers interested in better understanding these models have studied the changes in hidden state representations over time and noticed some interpretable patterns but also significant noise. In this work, we present LSTMVIS a visual analysis tool for recurrent neural networks with a focus on understanding these hidden state dynamics. The tool allows a user to select a hypothesis input range to focus on local state changes, to match these states changes to similar patterns in a large data set, and to align these results with domain specific structural annotations. We further show several use cases of the tool for analyzing specific hidden state properties on data sets containing nesting, phrase structure, and chord progressions, and demonstrate how the tool can be used to isolate patterns for further statistical analysis.

A diffusion network approach to visual speech recognition

In this paper we present an alternative to hidden Markov models for the recognition of image sequences. The approach is based on a stochastic version of recurrent neural networks, which we call diffusion networks. Contrary to hidden Markov models, diffusion networks operate with continuous state dynamics, and generate continuous paths. This aspect that may be beneficial in computer vision tasks...

Modelling of Deterministic, Fuzzy and Probablistic Dynamical Systems

Recurrent neural networks and hidden Markov models have been the popular tools for sequence recognition problems such as automatic speech recognition. This work investigates the combination of recurrent neural networks and hidden Markov models into the hybrid architecture. This combination is feasible due to the similarity of the architectural dynamics of the two systems. Initial experiments we...

Understanding Hidden Memories of Recurrent Neural Networks

Recurrent neural networks (RNNs) have been successfully applied to various natural language processing (NLP) tasks and achieved better results than conventional methods. However, the lack of understanding of the mechanisms behind their effectiveness limits further improvements on their architectures. In this paper, we present a visual analytics method for understanding and comparing RNN models ...

Application of artificial neural networks on drought prediction in Yazd (Central Iran)

In recent decades artificial neural networks (ANNs) have shown great ability in modeling and forecasting non-linear and non-stationary time series and in most of the cases especially in prediction of phenomena have showed very good performance. This paper presents the application of artificial neural networks to predict drought in Yazd meteorological station. In this research, different archite...

Performance Analysis of a New Neural Network for Routing in Mesh Interconnection Networks

Routing is one of the basic parts of a message passing multiprocessor system. The routing procedure has a great impact on the efficiency of a system. Neural algorithms that are currently in use for computer networks require a large number of neurons. If a specific topology of a multiprocessor network is considered, the number of neurons can be reduced. In this paper a new recurrent neural ne...
